Kate was riding her bicycle along the country road,
heading back home, after filling the wire basket that was attached to the
handlebars, with fresh produce. She was lost in thought, thinking about how
time changes things. The perfection she has always felt about her relationship with
George had taken a wrong turn.
Kate understands that her husband needs to work, to
fulfill his passion for designing buildings; but, she also knows that work
should never take the place of a relationship with her, or take time away from
the family.
She felt a tear drop onto her cheek, felt it dribble
down the length of her face, just as she heard a car quickly approaching behind
her. Kate looked back, saw the man’s scared expression, as the car hit her,
sending her into the air. For a split second she could see her bicycle, as it
was run over by the vehicle, crushing it. Then she fell, back to the pavement,
hitting her head hard. Leaving her unconscious.
Two days ago, Kate and George had been arguing. Kate
cried when she told George she just wanted more time with him. She wanted to
feel like a family, like they used to, when the twins were first born. “Is that
too much to ask?!” she screamed. George walked out, without an answer,
beginning the avoidance game. The angry game of ignoring each other.

Ugh.
ReplyDeleteWonderful job. So descriptive that I felt as though I was there.
I think that many of us are using this prompt to show the clarity of hindsight. Interesting...
