sex on his mind

7 year old Brad was enchanted with snowboarding. He couldn't seem to get enough of it. He watched competitions. Read magazines. Posted pictures. Everywhere, it seemed. We even bought him snowboarding sunglasses.

Twice. Only twice. He headed to Big Bear's mountain to glide down the glistening snow. Once, he spent the morning learning the techniques, then later, in the afternoon, he rode the lifts up. Bravely. To the top. And either tumbled down. Or surprisingly. Maneuvered swiftly. Almost skillfully. The second time. He spent the day just having fun. Honing his skills. As best he could, within a small time frame.

Days. Months. Lots of months. Passed. Without Brad going to the mountains. "Please?" he pleaded. "No money," we answered.

One day, Liz's out of high school friend, was going to take a trip to the local mountains. To snowboard. I wanted to share her excitement with Brad. Knew he'd be envious but, more so, excited for her.

"Quess what Liz's friend is doing today?" I asked. A sparkle in my eye.
"Have sex?" he said without hesitation. Not the response I expected. Not surprised, though, either.
"Snowboarding," I laughed.

"AAhhhh! Lucky!" Brad blurted.

    1. my advice... just go with it.. kids ask questions.. just answer them.. they don't know it's embarrassing until the adult shows embarrassment by the question... being open with conversations solidifies your relationship with your child...

    1. so funny. thing is, brad started saying things when he began talking... he seems to be a natural in this department.... we talk openly, quite often, about the subject... i'm pretty sure he appreciates the no holds bar attitude.... he's comfortable having discussions about sex.. it's no big deal to him...
